Drishyam 3 Movie Review: Mohanlal Keeps The Mind Games Tight, But The Final Turn Plays Safe

Drishyam 3 gives Mohanlal another controlled crime-thriller stage, with strong tension and a neat payoff even if the surprise factor is no longer as sharp.

Verdict
3.5/5

Drishyam 3 works best when it remembers what made this franchise addictive in the first place: silence, pressure, small details and Georgekutty thinking three steps ahead of everyone else.

The third film does not feel as shocking as the first Drishyam, and it does not carry the same emotional aftershock as Drishyam 2. But it still delivers a patient, well-built Malayalam crime thriller where Mohanlal’s calm face is often more entertaining than a loud twist.

Our Take: A tense, satisfying return for Georgekutty, even if the franchise is now playing a smarter version of a game we already know.

Drishyam 3 review: what works

The biggest strength is still Mohanlal. He does not oversell Georgekutty’s fear or cleverness. He lets the tension sit in his pauses, glances and half-answers. That restraint keeps the film watchable even when the story takes its time setting up the next trap.

Jeethu Joseph’s direction also understands the franchise rhythm. The film is not in a hurry to give away its hand. It keeps circling old guilt, police suspicion and family damage until the pressure starts feeling personal again. The best scenes are not the loud confrontations, but the ones where everyone in the room seems to know that one wrong sentence can reopen the whole case.

Meena gives the family side of the film some weight, while Siddique adds the kind of procedural tension that this series needs. The film is at its best when it balances the home and the investigation, because Drishyam has never only been about hiding a crime. It is about what hiding does to a family over time.

Where Drishyam 3 feels weaker

The problem is not that Drishyam 3 is badly made. It is that the audience now knows the grammar of this world. We enter the film already expecting Georgekutty to have a backup plan, then a backup behind that backup. So the writing has to work harder to surprise us.

Some middle portions feel a little too familiar. The film leans on the same question again: can the police finally corner him? That question is still engaging, but it no longer feels as fresh. A tighter second half would have made the suspense bite harder.

The final reveal is clever enough to land, but it is not a franchise-shaking knockout. It gives the story closure and applause moments, yet you can feel the film choosing safety over a truly risky emotional swing.

Performances

Mohanlal carries the film with quiet authority. He makes Georgekutty look ordinary on the surface and dangerous underneath, which is exactly why the character still works. Meena’s performance adds softness and fear without turning the family scenes into melodrama. Siddique brings the right amount of suspicion and control.

The supporting cast does what the film needs: they keep the net tight around Georgekutty. Nobody steals the film from Mohanlal, but they help create the feeling that the past is slowly closing in again.

Drishyam 3 trailer

Is Drishyam 3 worth watching?

Yes, especially if you are already invested in Georgekutty’s story. Drishyam 3 may not reinvent the series, but it respects the audience’s love for detail-led suspense. It is controlled, serious and consistently engaging.

If you are new to the franchise, do not start here. Watch the earlier films first, because the tension depends heavily on what this family has survived before. If you are a fan, this is a solid big-screen follow-up with enough mind-game satisfaction to justify the return.
