Murder Mindfully Season 2 review: What works
The best thing about Murder Mindfully remains its central joke. Björn does not become calmer because he becomes better. He becomes calmer because he learns how to make even terrible decisions sound emotionally regulated. Season 2 understands that joke and finds a fresh extension through the idea of his inner child.
That could easily have become a forced gimmick, but the show uses it as a funny and uncomfortable mirror. Björn is still trying to be a present father, a less reactive husband and a more controlled man. At the same time, the consequences of his mafia double life keep turning self-care language into crime-management language.
Tom Schilling continues to carry the show with a dry, contained performance. He sells Björn’s absurd contradictions without winking too hard. Peter Jordan’s Joschka Breitner also remains important because the mindfulness-coach angle gives the series its sharpest flavour: calm words, messy motives and very bad solutions wrapped in very gentle language.
The inner-child angle gives Season 2 a useful twist
Netflix’s official Season 2 setup puts Björn’s unresolved childhood wounds at the centre, and that shift helps the series avoid simply repeating Season 1. The mafia mess is still there, but the new season tries to push Björn inward instead of only throwing new bodies and threats around him.
This works because Murder Mindfully is not trying to become a heavy psychological drama. It stays playful. The humour comes from watching Björn apply clean emotional vocabulary to situations where a normal person would be panicking, confessing or running.
Where the season feels busy
The weaker side of Season 2 is that the show sometimes has to juggle too much: family tension, mafia fallout, the mindfulness coach, the inner-child material and the crime-comedy plotting. The short episode format keeps things moving, but a few turns can feel more convenient than surprising.
That does not break the season because the tone is already heightened. Murder Mindfully works best when you accept its world as a dark comic machine rather than a strict crime thriller. If you need airtight realism, this may irritate you. If you enjoy clever absurdity, the looseness is easier to forgive.
Cast and craft
The returning cast gives the season a lived-in rhythm. Tom Schilling, Emily Cox, Peter Jordan, Murathan Muslu and Britta Hammelstein help keep the show’s strange emotional temperature steady. The performances are rarely loud, which is important because the material is already bizarre enough.
Director Martina Plura and writer Doron Wisotzky keep the series visually clean and tonally light on its feet. The episodes are compact, which makes Season 2 easy to binge without feeling like the joke has been stretched beyond its limit.
Should you watch Murder Mindfully Season 2?
Yes, if you liked Season 1. Murder Mindfully Season 2 is still a clever Netflix dark comedy with a specific flavour: murder, therapy language, parenting guilt and criminal panic, all played with a straight face.
It is not dramatically deeper than it needs to be, and the plotting can lean on convenience. But it remains sharp, strange and easy to watch. The inner-child angle gives Björn a new comic problem without losing the show’s original hook.
Bingebaaz verdict
Murder Mindfully Season 2 is a neat return for Netflix’s German crime comedy. It is not flawless, but it understands its own odd personality and gives Björn Diemel another entertainingly terrible path to calm.
