Lanterns Cast and Character Guide: Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler Lead

Meet the confirmed Lanterns cast and characters, including Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner.

Lanterns is built around two Green Lanterns with very different levels of experience: Aaron Pierre plays John Stewart, and Kyle Chandler plays Hal Jordan. Their Nebraska investigation also brings in a small-town sheriff, a powerful local family and familiar figures from DC’s wider Green Lantern mythology.

Our spoiler-light Lanterns Episode 1 review explains why the Hal and John partnership makes such a strong first impression.

Actor Character / role Status

Kelly Macdonald Sheriff Kerry Confirmed
Garret Dillahunt William Macon Confirmed
Poorna Jagannathan Zoe Confirmed
Ulrich Thomsen Sinestro Confirmed
Nathan Fillion Guy Gardner Confirmed

Aaron Pierre as John Stewart

John Stewart is one half of the series’ central investigative pair. Aaron Pierre plays the newer Green Lantern officer who heads to Nebraska with Hal after the two receive a coded message. The case quickly puts their peacekeeping mission under pressure as the town’s mood turns against them.

Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan

Hal Jordan is the experienced Lantern beside John. Kyle Chandler’s character believes the incident at the centre of the Nebraska case may have an extraterrestrial cause, pulling the partners deeper into a threat that the local community cannot easily explain.

Kelly Macdonald as Sheriff Kerry

Kelly Macdonald plays Kerry, the town’s sheriff. She is a practical authority figure with deep ties to her family and community, placing her close to both the local investigation and the people reacting to John and Hal’s arrival. That makes Kerry a key human figure in the mystery rather than part of the Lantern Corps.

Garret Dillahunt as William Macon

Garret Dillahunt plays William Macon, a self-assured local with a strong sense of how the town should work. His place in the Macon family links the wider mystery to tensions that already exist on the ground, giving John and Hal more than an unexplained event to navigate.

Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe

Poorna Jagannathan plays Zoe, a composed figure whose calm surface does not make her easy to read. She is part of the Earth-bound ensemble surrounding the investigation, and the role keeps the story’s focus on people whose relationships and motives matter alongside the larger DC mythology.

Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro

Ulrich Thomsen plays Sinestro, a former Green Lantern and one of the most consequential names in the mythology. His history with Hal makes the casting particularly important, but the extent of Sinestro’s role in the Nebraska case is best left for the series to reveal.

Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner

Nathan Fillion appears as Guy Gardner, another Green Lantern whose blunt, confrontational personality sharply differs from both John Stewart and Hal Jordan. Fillion carries the role into the series as part of the connected DC Studios continuity, making Guy one of the clearest links between Lanterns and the wider franchise.

Jason Ritter as Billy Macon

Jason Ritter plays Billy Macon, William’s son and Kerry’s husband. Billy belongs to the local family strand of the story, giving the central investigation a personal dimension as John and Hal attempt to understand what happened in the town.

How the ensemble shapes the investigation

The cast divides naturally into two circles. John, Hal, Guy and Sinestro carry the Green Lantern history, while Kerry, William, Zoe and Billy anchor the Nebraska community where the case unfolds. The mystery can therefore move between questions of cosmic responsibility and the loyalties of a town that does not welcome outside scrutiny.

That structure also explains why the supporting roles matter. The local characters are not simply witnesses waiting for superheroes to arrive; their relationships determine what John and Hal can learn, whom they can trust and how quickly public opinion turns against them.

Supporting cast and Stewart family roles

The wider ensemble adds figures from John Stewart’s family history and the Guardians who oversee the Green Lantern Corps:

  • Laura Linney plays a Guardian of the Universe. A proper character name has not been announced.
  • J. Alphonse Nicholson plays a younger John Stewart Sr., John’s father.
  • Jasmine Cephas Jones plays a younger Bernadette Stewart, John’s mother.
  • Nicole Ari Parker plays Bernadette Stewart.
  • Sherman Augustus plays John Stewart Sr.

Nicholson and Jones portray younger versions of the same parents played by Augustus and Parker, extending the cast guide beyond the present-day Stewart family.

Who created Lanterns?

Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King co-created the eight-episode drama, with Mundy serving as showrunner. James Gunn, Peter Safran, Ron Schmidt and James Hawes are also among the executive producers.
