Why is Ghatak back in cinemas?
PVR INOX announced a weekly run of three Sunny Deol and Rajkumar Santoshi films. Damini opened the retrospective on 24 July, Ghatak follows on 31 July, and Ghayal arrives on 7 August.
The programme leads into Deol and Santoshi’s next theatrical collaboration, Batwara 1947, which is scheduled for 14 August. PVR INOX’s official announcement describes the three-film run as a celebration of the pair’s action, emotion and storytelling.
What is Ghatak about?
The 1996 action drama follows Kashi, who comes to Mumbai with his ailing father and finds a neighbourhood living under the violent control of gangster Katya. Kashi’s refusal to accept that fear puts him in direct conflict with Katya and his men.
The setup is simple, but the pressure is personal: this is a fight about whether ordinary people will keep lowering their eyes or finally stand together. That big-screen confrontation remains the film’s clearest pull for a theatrical comeback.
Who stars in Ghatak?
Sunny Deol leads the film as Kashi, with Danny Denzongpa as Katya. Meenakshi Seshadri and Amrish Puri also feature in the principal cast. The film was written and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.
