What is Beast Race about?
The film imagines a near future in which the sea has vanished and Rio de Janeiro has been left in ruins. A familiar gambling tradition has mutated into an illegal race where people become the competitors and wealthy spectators bet on who survives.
Matheus Abreu plays Mano, a young man forced into the race to save his sister. The contest carries a million-dollar prize, but the personal stakes matter more: runners enter with loved ones hanging in the balance.
Why the title has two names
Corrida dos Bichos is the film’s official Portuguese title. Prime Video has also marketed it internationally as Beast Race. Both names point to the same Brazilian film, not separate productions.
Who is in the film?
Matheus Abreu leads as Mano. The ensemble also includes Rodrigo Santoro, Bruno Gagliasso, Isis Valverde, Grazi Massafera, Seu Jorge, Silvero Pereira, Leandro Firmino, João Guilherme, Jade Sassará and Thainá Duarte. Anitta makes a special appearance connected to the race’s celebrity-driven presentation.

Is Beast Race worth adding to your watchlist?
The trailer sells a grim survival setup with a distinctly Brazilian identity rather than a generic tournament premise. The animal-lottery mythology, ruined-city backdrop and family collateral give the race an immediate emotional engine. Viewers who like dystopian contests with social satire should keep it on the August watchlist.
