Netflix maturity ratings are country-specific

In practice, check both the rating and the advisory instead of treating one badge as a complete parenting decision.
Netflix maturity ratings in India
Those are the levels currently listed on Netflix’s India-facing Help page. If you are setting up an account in another country, use the labels shown in that country’s Netflix interface rather than translating the Indian table by age. Regional systems are not always one-to-one.
The rating appears briefly when a title starts and on the movie or show details page, although placement can vary by device. What a profile maturity setting actually does
A maturity setting creates a ceiling for one profile. Netflix says that profile will display only shows, movies and games rated at or below the chosen level. It does not lower the rating of a title, edit mature scenes or change every other profile on the account. Each profile needs its own setting.
This profile-by-profile design is useful in a mixed-age household. One child can have a lower ceiling, an older teenager can have a different one, and an adult profile can remain unrestricted. It also means the boundary is only reliable when the child cannot simply switch to a less restricted profile. That is where Profile Lock becomes important.
On Android, iPhone and iPad, Netflix directs users through My Netflix → profile name → Manage Profiles → choose profile → Viewing Restrictions → Maturity Rating. Identity verification is required. In a browser, go to the Account page, select Profiles, choose Adjust parental controls for the intended profile, verify identity, set the level and save. Netflix says a Kids profile’s maturity level must be edited in a web browser.
Kids profiles add a different viewing experience
A Kids profile is not merely an adult profile with a smaller row of titles. Netflix describes the Kids experience as a simplified interface with direct access to account settings removed. The profile is marked with a logo, cannot have an email address added for direct sign-in and plays movies, shows and games selected for children.
You can create one by adding a profile and selecting the child option. Depending on the device, Netflix may label it Kids Profile, Kid? or For Kids. The main profile cannot be converted into a Kids profile, so use a secondary profile. An existing secondary profile can also be edited into the Kids experience.
There is an important limit: if you choose a maturity level above the level allowed for the Kids experience, Netflix says the Kids experience will not apply to that profile. A Kids profile is therefore part of the control stack, not a reason to ignore the maturity setting.
After changing a Kids or maturity setting, a device may need a refresh. Netflix recommends switching to another profile and back, or signing out and signing in again. If a title seems to ignore a fresh setting, refresh before assuming the control failed.
Title blocking handles the awkward exceptions
A broad rating ceiling will not match every household rule. A parent may be comfortable with most titles at one level but want to remove a specific show or movie. Netflix provides title restrictions for exactly that case. A blocked title is removed from the selected profile, while other profiles remain separate.
On mobile, open the profile’s Viewing Restrictions and choose Block Titles, verify the account, search for the movie or show and add it. To block a title on a Kids profile, Netflix directs you to use a web browser. In a browser, open the Account page, choose Profiles, select Adjust parental controls, verify identity, add the title under Title Restrictions and save.
Netflix notes that only the first 100 blocked movies and shows are displayed in the list, though more can still be blocked. To remove a title that is not visible in that first group, search for it. This is a useful maintenance detail for long-running household accounts.
Do not confuse a profile block with a catalogue removal. If a title is missing from one profile, it can be hidden by that profile’s maturity level or title restrictions even while it remains available elsewhere on the account. Profile Lock PINs protect the boundary between profiles
Netflix lets you add a four-digit Profile Lock PIN to a specific profile. The PIN is required to open that profile or play titles downloaded from it. This is the practical companion to a child’s maturity ceiling: the child profile can stay limited while the unrestricted adult profile is locked.
On mobile, go through Manage Profiles, choose the profile, open Profile Lock, create the lock, verify the account and enter four numbers. In a browser, open the Account page, select Profiles, choose the intended profile, open Profile Lock and create the PIN. Netflix also provides edit and delete options, plus a Forgot PIN route through the account page.
A Profile Lock PIN is different from the Netflix account password. It also does not automatically stop someone from creating another profile. Netflix offers a separate option to require a PIN whenever a new profile is added. That option can be selected when a Profile Lock is added to the main, first profile.
The same basic rule applies: a control is only as strong as the route around it. If the adult profile is unlocked or new profiles can be freely created, a carefully tuned child profile can be bypassed. Keep the adult-profile PIN private, lock the main profile and enable the new-profile PIN requirement when that bypass matters in your household.

- Create a separate secondary profile for each child or age group that needs a different boundary.

- Set the profile’s maturity ceiling using the labels shown in your country.
- Open a few likely titles and read both the rating and content advisory.
- Add title restrictions for specific exceptions to your broad rule.
- Add a four-digit Profile Lock PIN to every less-restricted adult profile.
- On the main profile, require its PIN before new profiles can be added if available and needed.
- Refresh the device by switching profiles or signing out and back in.
- Test from the child profile: search for one title above the ceiling and one blocked title.
- Review settings when a child’s age, household rule or regional account changes.
