When does The Whisper Man release on Netflix?
The Whisper Man arrives on Friday, August 28, 2026. Netflix lists the film on its India catalogue with that date, placing it among the major weekend arrivals in our August 24-30 OTT release guide.
Netflix classifies it as a film rather than a series. The India title page lists an A rating and a rounded runtime of 1 hour 54 minutes.
What is The Whisper Man about?
Tom is a widowed crime writer whose 8-year-old son, Jake, is abducted. Desperate for help, he turns to his estranged father, Peter Willis, a retired detective who once caught the serial killer known as the Whisper Man.
The new disappearance appears connected to that decades-old case, even though the convicted killer has remained in prison. The investigation brings Peter and Tom back together while Detective Amanda Beck joins the search for Jake and the truth behind the renewed crimes.
Who is in the cast?
Robert De Niro plays Peter Willis, the retired detective at the centre of the original case. Adam Scott plays Peter’s estranged son, Tom, while Michelle Monaghan appears as Detective Amanda Beck. Acston Luca Porto plays Jake, Tom’s abducted young son.
The confirmed ensemble also includes Hamish Linklater, Owen Teague and Will Brill. Netflix has not publicly attached character names to those three performers. Our separate The Whisper Man cast guide separates the confirmed character mappings from the roles still being kept under wraps.
Is The Whisper Man based on a book?
Yes. The film adapts Alex North’s bestselling 2019 novel The Whisper Man. The story keeps the book’s unsettling playground rhyme and its focus on fathers, sons and the fear of a threat reaching a child inside the family home.
James Ashcroft directs from a screenplay by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer. The film is another collaboration between Netflix and AGBO, the production company founded by Anthony and Joe Russo.
Should you add it to your watchlist?
The strongest hook is the mix of a serial-killer mystery with a damaged father-son relationship. Viewers drawn to dark crime thrillers, missing-child investigations and book adaptations have a clear reason to make this one of the weekend’s priority streams.
