When does Gandhari release on Netflix in India?

Gandhari arrives on Netflix on September 3, 2026. The India title listing sets its availability at 7:00 a.m. UTC, which converts to 12:30 p.m. IST. If that catalogue time remains unchanged, Indian subscribers should see the film appear around lunchtime rather than at midnight.

This is a Netflix film, not a weekly series, so there is no episode rollout or finale schedule to track. No separate theatrical window has been announced. It joins the broader OTT releases for August 31 to September 6, where Netflix has several major September arrivals.

What is Gandhari about?

Bani loses both her daughter and, temporarily, her eyesight after a kidnapping and a violent attack. Her search leads into Joypurra, a fictional town shaped by old legends, hidden threats and people who can change their appearance. The official trailer pushes the story beyond a conventional missing-child investigation by placing Bani inside a world where she cannot easily trust what she sees.

Netflix describes the film as an emotionally charged action thriller, but the action has a personal engine. Bani is not carrying out an assignment. She is a mother trying to recover her child, and every confrontation pulls her closer to the network standing in her way.

Which Gandhari cast roles are confirmed?

Taapsee Pannu is the only principal performer whose character name has been publicly attached by Netflix: she plays Bani. The release announcement names Ishwak Singh, Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht and Jatin Sarna as the key ensemble around her, but it does not map them to individual characters.

Netflix’s title page also lists Prashant Narayanan, Chandan Roy, Vishwanath Chatterjee and Priti Shroff. Their roles remain undisclosed as well. That distinction matters because the trailer presents allies, suspects and possible threats without giving viewers a dependable actor-to-character key. Rather than guessing from the edit, the table keeps every unannounced mapping open.

Why is the film called Gandhari?

The title invokes Gandhari from the Mahabharata, a mother associated with blindness, grief and devastating consequences. Kanika Dhillon has said that the film interprets that familiar figure differently. The modern story gives Bani a temporary loss of sight and turns maternal fear into a physical pursuit.

That does not make the Netflix film a direct adaptation of the epic. Its story is set in contemporary Joypurra, and the connection works as a thematic frame: a mother, altered vision and the cost of what happens to her child.

The creative reunion behind Gandhari

Gandhari brings Taapsee Pannu and writer-producer Kanika Dhillon back to Netflix after Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, but the new film moves away from romantic deception and into bruising maternal action. Devashish Makhija directs, following the tense, grounded filmmaking of Joram, Bhonsle and Ajji.

The useful expectation is not a mythological spectacle or a glossy spy mission. The premise, Joypurra setting and Bani’s impaired sight point toward a darker pursuit thriller in which physical danger and a mother’s panic stay intertwined.
