Mrs Sen is approaching her 80th birthday when the film begins. Her forgetfulness is not used as a mystery to be solved; it changes how time works inside the house. The present keeps slipping into old memories, leaving Ritika to work out what her mother still recognises and what has begun to disappear.
Tagore’s casting carries another layer because Puratawn marked her return to Bengali cinema after more than a decade. Ghosh gives her a role that depends on small shifts of expression and silence. Mrs Sen can appear fragile in one moment and unexpectedly clear in the next, which prevents the character from becoming only an illness or a symbol.
Rituparna Sengupta as Ritika
Ritika is the daughter returning to the ancestral home for her mother’s birthday. The visit forces her into two difficult roles at once: she must become a caregiver while also facing the memories and resentments she brought back with her.
Rituparna Sengupta also produced the film, but her on-screen work is deliberately contained. Ritika often watches before she reacts. That reserve matters because the drama is less interested in a single revelation than in the gradual rearrangement of a mother-daughter relationship.

Rajeev arrives with Ritika and exposes the tension in her adult life. Some published descriptions call him her husband, while others describe him as her ex-husband. The film’s reliable dramatic point is that their relationship is strained and that returning home places their unresolved distance beside Mrs Sen’s changing memory.
Indraneil Sengupta plays Rajeev without turning him into a simple antagonist. He is part of the emotional pressure on Ritika, but he is also another person trying to understand how much of a shared past can still hold a family together.
Ekavali Khanna as Gaurika
Gaurika is a psychiatrist and a close friend of Ritika. Ekavali Khanna described the character as a confidante who becomes a voice of reason. That places her slightly outside the central household dynamic: she can listen to Ritika and name tensions that the family cannot easily discuss among themselves.
Her role also keeps the film from treating Mrs Sen’s condition only as poetic memory. Gaurika brings a professional perspective, while her friendship with Ritika gives those conversations a personal stake.
How the four characters connect
The core relationship is between Mrs Sen and Ritika. Rajeev’s presence adds the question of whether Ritika’s own relationship can survive the history she has avoided. Gaurika provides the outside perspective Ritika needs but cannot receive from either her mother or Rajeev.
This structure explains why the film feels intimate even when other faces appear around the family. The supporting cast includes Brishti Roy, Rishabh Basu and Debashish Roy, but dependable public materials do not consistently name their characters. Rather than attach unverified roles to them, it is safer to treat them as credited supporting performers until fuller screen credits become available.

Tagore is the emotional centre, but Puratawn is not a solo showcase.
