Fauda Seasons 1-4 turn Doron Kavillio’s hunt for one man into a chain of revenge that costs him family, partners and any real chance of leaving the unit behind. The one thing to remember before Season 5 is simple: every mission ends, but its damage becomes the next mission.

Fauda Seasons 1-4 in 60 seconds
Doron comes out of retirement in Season 1 to finish his hunt for Abu Ahmad. That operation destroys Boaz, pulls Shirin into Doron’s double life and leaves Walid in control. Season 2 makes the conflict brutally personal when Nidal targets Doron’s family. Season 3 shows Doron turning boxer Bashar into an intelligence route, then watching that betrayal help create a new enemy. Season 4 widens the field to Brussels, Syria, Lebanon and Jenin before leaving Doron and much of his team bleeding out after an ambush.
The Panther
Doron returns to hunt Abu Ahmad. Boaz dies, Shirin learns Doron’s identity, and Walid takes power.
Al Makdasi
Nidal attacks Doron’s family. Amos and Shirin die, while Ido is pulled frighteningly close to his father’s war.
Bashar
Doron’s cover destroys a young boxer’s future. The Gaza rescue succeeds, but Avihai and Yaara are killed.
The ambush
Gabi is rescued and Adel is killed, but the team ends the season gravely wounded in Jenin.
Season 1 recap: Doron returns to hunt Abu Ahmad
Doron has left the undercover unit and built a quieter life when intelligence reveals that Taufiq Hammed, better known as Abu Ahmad or The Panther, survived the operation that supposedly killed him. Doron rejoins Mickey Moreno’s team for a strike at the wedding of Abu Ahmad’s brother Bashir. The target escapes, Bashir is killed, and the raid creates the revenge cycle that drives the season.
Bashir’s widow Amal bombs a nightclub in retaliation. Boaz survives the blast, but his girlfriend does not. His grief sends him back into the field before he is ready, and Abu Ahmad’s men capture him. Doron’s team kidnaps Sheikh Awadalla and Abu Ahmad’s daughter Abir as leverage, yet the prisoner exchange collapses. Abu Ahmad detonates the device hidden inside Boaz. Doron responds by killing the sheikh.
Doron then goes deeper. Using his Arab identity, Amir, he gets close to doctor Shirin and infiltrates Abu Ahmad’s plan to use sarin in a synagogue. Walid discovers that Amir is Doron and warns the cell, but the team reaches Doron before he is killed. Walid then shoots Abu Ahmad himself and sends proof of Doron’s identity to Shirin.
What lasts: Doron survives, but his marriage and command structure are fractured. Boaz is dead. Shirin knows the romance was built on deception. Walid has removed his mentor and is ready to become the next power.
Season 2 recap: Nidal brings the war into Doron’s home
The second season opens by proving that retirement will never protect Doron. A bombing kills Moreno, and Gabi brings Doron back to hunt Walid. The more dangerous force is Nidal Awadallah, also known as Al Makdasi, the son of Sheikh Awadalla. He returns from Syria focused on revenge and builds a cell of Arabic-speaking operatives who can pass as Israeli Jews, mirroring the undercover tactics used by Doron’s unit.
Nidal understands that Doron’s weak point is not operational. It is personal. He threatens Doron’s son Ido, then captures Doron’s father Amos and has him killed. At the same time, Doron keeps promising Shirin a route out while using her connection to Walid. Gabi’s side fails to deliver the escape Shirin believed she had been offered. Trapped between Walid’s accusations, Israeli pressure and Doron’s broken promises, Shirin dies by suicide.
The finale brings Nidal’s campaign directly to Doron and Ido. He kidnaps them and prepares a filmed execution, but Eli and the team track the hideout. During the rescue, Ido takes aim at the wounded Nidal. Doron stops his son from firing. It is a small choice with enormous meaning: Doron has already passed fear and violence into the next generation, and he can only interrupt that inheritance for a moment.
What lasts: Doron loses Amos and Shirin. Eli is now a central leader in the team. Ido has seen his father’s world up close, and Doron’s instinct to solve every wound by returning to the field is more entrenched than ever.
Season 3 recap: Bashar and Gaza break the team
Season 3 begins with Doron undercover as Abu Fadi, a boxing coach in Hebron. His student Bashar is talented, trusting and desperate for a future beyond the conflict surrounding his family. Doron uses that trust to reach Bashar’s cousin Fauzi. When the operation exposes Doron’s identity and Fauzi is killed, Bashar is treated as a collaborator and pushed toward the very network Doron was trying to destroy.
Bashar and his father Jihad eventually kidnap Israeli hikers Elad and Yaara. The chase moves into Gaza, where Doron’s team attempts a high-risk rescue. Elad is killed during an escape attempt. Doron kills Jihad in a shootout, and Bashar’s grief hardens into revenge. The mission also costs the unit Avihai, who dies after being shot during the operation.
Yaara is brought home alive, which looks like the victory the team desperately needs. It does not hold. Bashar later returns, targets both Gabi and Yaara, and shoots Yaara after taking her hostage again. He is captured and enters prison as a celebrated militant rather than the young boxer Doron first met.
What lasts: Doron cannot dismiss Bashar as just another target because he helped shape the path that destroyed him. Avihai is dead, the team carries another layer of survivor’s guilt, and Doron ends the season confronting the fact that his talent for undercover work leaves ruined lives on both sides of the mission.
Season 4 recap: Gabi’s kidnapping ends in a Jenin cliffhanger
Doron is again retired, this time living as a horse farmer, when Gabi asks him to help with a meeting in Brussels. Their contact, Omar Tawalbe, is actually working with Hezbollah. The meeting is a trap. Gabi is kidnapped, Doron blames himself, and the old team is pulled into an international hunt that moves through Belgium, Syria and Lebanon.
Omar’s sister Maya is an Israeli-Arab police officer whose family connection makes her useful to both sides. Israeli intelligence manipulates her with a deepfake of Omar, while Doron works under another identity to get her across the border. The operation eventually reaches Omar, who reveals that Gabi is alive in Lebanon. The team rescues Gabi before he can be transferred, but Gabi kills Omar before extraction. Maya is left with the knowledge that she was used to reach her brother and that the rescue ended with his death.
Back in the West Bank, Adel Tawalbe turns information taken from Gabi into attacks and a missile strike. The team tries to draw Adel out during Omar’s funeral in Jenin. Maya recognizes Doron and exposes the undercover operatives, forcing Adel to flee. The pursuit ends at a fortified compound where Doron kills Adel, but the apparent win becomes a massacre.
The finale leaves Doron, Eli, Steve, Sagi and Russo gravely wounded as evacuation struggles to reach them. The season does not offer a reassuring roll call. Its final image is the unit together, exposed and bleeding, with the cost of Gabi’s rescue still spreading through everyone involved.
Where Season 4 leaves the returning team
Doron
He kills Adel but is badly wounded. Four seasons have made his repeated returns to service look less like duty and more like an addiction he cannot survive cleanly.
Gabi
He is rescued from captivity, physically alive but deeply traumatized. Killing Omar turns his survival into another wound for Maya and Doron to carry.
Eli
The commander remains the unit’s anchor, but he is among those hit in Jenin. His loyalty to the team keeps placing him inside the consequences of Doron’s decisions.
Steve
His marriage to Anat has collapsed, custody of their son has shifted, and he is wounded in the final operation. The field has cost him the home life he kept trying to protect.
Sagi and Nurit
They marry in Season 4. Nurit steps back from the field during pregnancy, while Sagi is shot in Jenin. Their attempt to build a family now sits beside another unresolved battlefield fate.
Russo
She questions the moral cost of the team’s work after Adel’s son is injured, then joins the Jenin operation and is seriously wounded.
What to remember before starting Fauda Season 5
First, Doron’s real continuity is not any single enemy. It is the accumulated damage of repeatedly crossing the line between mission and personal vendetta. Abu Ahmad, Nidal, Bashar and Adel are different threats, but each story leaves Doron more isolated and more dependent on the unit he keeps trying to leave.
Second, Gabi is not returning from an ordinary assignment. His Season 4 captivity and his killing of Omar place him on unstable emotional ground. Third, Eli and Steve are not background teammates. By the end of Season 4, their families, bodies and loyalties have all paid for staying beside Doron.
Season 5 begins two years after October 7, 2023, with Doron facing trauma as an old friend’s unsanctioned revenge mission in Marseille pulls him into another operation. That setup makes the earlier pattern immediately relevant: private grief becomes field action, Doron follows, and the team absorbs the consequences. Do you need to rewatch Fauda before Season 5?
No full 48-episode rewatch is required if the major emotional turns above are still familiar. The most useful single refresher is the Season 4 finale because it shows Gabi’s post-captivity state, Maya’s betrayal, Adel’s defeat and the team’s unresolved condition.
Rewatch Season 3 as well if you want the clearest example of why Doron’s undercover methods matter beyond the target. Bashar’s story is the series’ sharpest warning that an operation can succeed tactically and still create the next disaster.
