The Mandalorian and Grogu Ending Explained: Post-Credit Scene and What Comes Next

The Mandalorian and Grogu ending explained: who survives the Hutt battle, what happens to Rotta and Embo, and whether a post-credit scene exists.

The ending of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu does not tease a mystery villain or hide a sequel inside the credits. Its real turn is smaller and more personal: Grogu proves he can protect the father who has spent three seasons protecting him.

Spoiler warning: this article reveals the final battle, major character fates and the last scene of the film, now streaming on JioHotstar in India.

The Mandalorian and Grogu ending explained: what happens in the final act?

Din Djarin’s assignment begins as a trade. The New Republic wants information about an Imperial warlord called Commander Coin, while the Hutt Twins agree to cooperate only if Din returns their nephew, Rotta the Hutt. Rotta eventually reveals the trap: the arms dealer Lord Janu and Commander Coin are the same man, and the Twins do not want their nephew rescued so much as brought under their control.

Din helps capture Coin and keeps Rotta away from his aunt and uncle. That decision puts him on the Hutts’ target list. The bounty hunter Embo later abducts Din and takes him to Nal Hutta, where the Twins force the Mandalorian into a pit with a Dragonsnake.

Does Din Djarin die?

No. Din survives, but the film lets the possibility breathe longer than expected. The Dragonsnake bites and poisons him during the arena fight. Grogu and the Anzellans help him escape the pit, yet their tiny craft cannot carry Din away from Nal Hutta.

Believing he is buying the others time, Din orders them to leave. Grogu secretly remains behind, hides his unconscious father and searches the swamp for food and help. A local stranger provides a remedy, which Grogu uses while nursing Din back to health.

The sequence reverses the relationship that has powered the story since The Mandalorian began. Grogu is no longer only the foundling being carried through danger. He observes, plans and keeps Din alive. His Mandalorian apprenticeship and earlier Jedi training finally operate together as practical care rather than spectacle.

What happens to the Hutt Twins?

Once Din recovers, he and Grogu choose to stop running. They return to the Hutt palace to rescue Rotta and end the threat. During the fight, Rotta turns on his relatives, and all three Hutts fall towards the Dragonsnake pit beneath the throne room.

Grogu uses the Force to catch Rotta. The Twins are not saved: the Dragonsnake devours them. Their droid forces are then destroyed as Colonel Ward and the New Republic X-wing squadron attack the compound and extract Din, Grogu and Rotta.

The Twins’ deaths remove the immediate threat, but they also leave a power vacuum in the Hutt criminal network. The film does not explore who might claim that territory next, so the consequence remains an open thread rather than a confirmed setup.

Does Embo survive?

Yes. Embo escapes the destruction on Nal Hutta. That makes the veteran bounty hunter the most obvious surviving antagonist from the final conflict, though the film does not confirm that he will pursue Din again.

What happens to Commander Coin?

Commander Coin, who operated under the Lord Janu identity, remains in New Republic custody. His interrogation supplies the final political revelation: the Hutt Twins had been passing information to Imperial remnants while presenting themselves as partners of the New Republic.

That disclosure clears Din’s decision to defy the original arrangement. He did not ruin a trustworthy alliance; he exposed one built on manipulation.

What happens to Rotta the Hutt?

Rotta survives because Grogu saves him from the pit. Free of the Twins and no longer forced to inherit Jabba’s criminal role, he chooses to remain with the New Republic. Zeb takes an interest in helping him find a place there.

Rotta’s choice gives the ending its second found-family variation. He is not redeemed by bloodline or made the new Hutt ruler. He rejects the future his family wrote for him and begins building one through chosen allies.

What does the final Razor Crest scene mean?

Din still calls himself an independent contractor, although Colonel Ward dryly treats him as part of the New Republic operation. He and Grogu then leave aboard their new Razor Crest. Din invites his apprentice into the pilot’s seat and lets him take the ship into hyperspace.

It is a modest but meaningful final image. Grogu began the film as a passenger in Din’s life; he ends it learning to steer. The destination is left unspecified because the point is not a particular next mission. Din is actively preparing Grogu to choose and survive his own path.

Is there a post-credit scene?

No. The Mandalorian and Grogu has no mid-credit or post-credit scene. There is no hidden character reveal or direct preview of another Star Wars project after the story ends.

That clean finish matters. Rather than turning its last seconds into an advertisement, the film leaves Din and Grogu mobile, together and available for future stories without promising where or when one will happen.

Does the ending set up The Mandalorian Season 4 or a sequel?

The ending creates possibilities, not a confirmed project. Embo is alive, Rotta has joined the New Republic, the Hutts have lost their leaders and Din remains connected to Colonel Ward’s campaign against Imperial remnants. Any of those threads could continue.

What the film does not do is explicitly connect its final scene to Ahsoka Season 2, Star Wars: Starfighter or an announced Mandalorian sequel. Until Lucasfilm confirms the next chapter, those connections should remain speculation.

The ending in one line

Din defeats the Hutt threat, Rotta chooses the New Republic, and Grogu proves he is becoming a protector and apprentice rather than remaining a permanent passenger.
